“Chivas and Desso share the same ambition: not only creating environmental awareness but also making it real.”

Playing football in a volcano
Impossible you reckon? In Mexico they took up the challenge.
Club Deportivo Guadalajara (chivascampeon.com), one of the most popular football clubs in Latin America, has built an innovative stadium in the form of a volcano. The artificial turf, Desso iDNA, completes Chivas’ new home ground.
A much-discussed stadium
The design of the stadium was entrusted to Jean-Marie Massaud & Daniël Pouzet from a prestigious French architects’ office. Their goal was to integrate the Estadio Omnilife (El Templo Mayor) into its environment, the green surroundings providing the inspiration for the stadium’s design. Water consumption, electricity, air quality and urban design were also important considerations.
Artificial turf was an obvious choice here. No water is required for sprinklers and maintenance costs are considerably lower. Moreover, playing on an artificial turf pitch is never a problem, no matter what the weather conditions.
Multi-functional use
The stadium has achieved the perfect balance between function and aesthetics. With a capacity of 45,500 spectators, Estadio Omnilife can be used not just for football matches, but also for concerts, events, and much more. The Desso iDNA artificial grass surface fits the bill perfectly. Artificial grass products can take a lot of punishment, which makes them extremely suited to sports but also for other activities. With the capacity of 3 natural grass pitches the figures speak for themselves.
Green grass in every way
When designing the Estadio Omnilife, using environmentally intelligent systems was one of the main concerns. Environmental awareness is now greater than ever. Chivas and Desso share the same ambition: not only creating environmental awareness but also making it real. In signing a partnership agreement with the Environmental Protection Encouragement Agency (EPEA), Desso Sports Systems is the first artifical turf manufacturer worldwide to adopt the Cradle to Cradle design. It marks Desso's radical decision to move beyond "mere" sustainability.
At the start of 2009 Desso took another step towards sustainability with “Cradle to Cradle”: manufacturing without waste.
