The British School of Brussels places great importance on sports. In order to allow over 1,000 pupils to practice sports in optimal conditions good sports facilities are essential. The existing accommodation of natural grass fields no longer fulfilled the school’s requirements.

British School approached Desso Sports Systems. Laying a number of artificial turfs was proposed, that in addition to their good sports characteristics, would also be durable and require low maintenance in comparison to natural grass.

In the first phase 1 hockey field and 4 tennis courts were installed using artificial turf. The football, rugby and American Football players now play on a multifunctional football synthetic grass pitch. An athletics course with 6 tracks with blue synthetic grass lines around the field is the jewel in the project’s crown.

Alistair Hamilton, Director of Sports British School, is satisfied: "We have only had to close our outdoor facilities twice due to severe weather conditions since laying the Desso-fields. A great improvement if you think that we generally used to have to stop all outdoor activities on our natural grass fields for six to eight weeks in the winter. A great detail is that we now not only put a smile on our students’ faces but also on those of the cleaning staff. Thanks to the installation of our artificial grass fields muddy footprints in the corridors and classes are now definitely a thing of the past. The investment was well spent in every way for us."

Over 1,000 pupils, their family and sports clubs from the surrounding municipalities play sports intensively on the fields, both during and after school hours. In addition international and inter-school competitions are held there.
