Vicarage Road Stadium again chooses Desso GrassMaster

After 13 years of intensive use of their Desso GrassMaster stadium pitch, Watford FC again chooses hybrid grass for its Vicarage Road Stadium. The surface was reconstructed by J Mallinson (Ormskirk) Limited.

Combine football and rugby

A perfectly stable and durable field is of great importance to Vicarage Road Stadium, since it is not only home to Watford Football Club, the stadium is also host to Saracens Rugby Union Club. With Desso GrassMaster hybrid grass, the venue is perfectly able to handle a combined schedule of football and rugby games like it has done over the past decade.

Top level surface

“The Desso system has proved itself over the past years coping with the demands of dual sports whilst still providing a surface capable of playing top level sports on. It was therefore a natural choice to select the latest example of the system to help take Watford FC forward to a new and exciting period of development at the club,” says Glyn Evans, Operations Director at Watford FC.

100 % natural grass

The Desso GrassMaster hybrid natural grass system consists of a 100 % natural grass pitch into which artificial fibres are injected 20 cm deep, every 2 cm across the pitch. This results in approximately 20 million artificial fibres, reinforcing the natural grass pitch. The ingenuity of the system can be found below the surface. The natural grass roots grow around the artificial fibres, thus anchoring the field. The system offers stability and reinforcement, ensuring a uniform and strong surface in perfect condition at all times.
