By the end of the London Olympics we had an established surface that had been successfully tested to its limits and given the challenging growing environment and event calendar of the stadium this could not have been possible without the robustness of the GrassMaster surface

Wembley successfully combines multiple events with Desso GrassMaster

Guarantee perfect drainage

Wembley is the iconic home to the English national football team and a leading multifunctional venue. The Wembley management was in search for a system that could handle the tight sports / events schedule and guarantee a better drainage of the pitch. In Desso GrassMaster they found their solution. Roger Maslin, Managing Director of Wembley Stadium: “We have given us the utmost confidence that the new Desso system will provide the required level of performance and flexibility to deliver to our business plan.”

Desso GrassMaster: a smart and paying investment

After 1 year, the Desso GrassMaster system has already recovered its costs. Players, football coaches, media and sponsors have faith in the pitch. Membership fees for the exclusive ‘Club Wembley’ are again sought-after. With Desso GrassMaster, Wembley will continue to be one of the world’s leading entertainment venues, with football at the very heart of its business.

High-performing pitch for world leading sports events

Top events such as the Carling Cup finalFA Cup Final, the Champions League Final and several pop concerts already took place on the new Desso GrassMaster pitch. In one year more than 60 sports events and 8 weeks of concerts were organized. After this busy year the pitch was still in perfect condition. During the 2012 Games, Wembley hosted qualifying football matches, the semi-finals and finals. In less than two weeks time nine matches were played.

London Games

Greg Gillin, former Stadium Management of Wembley Stadium: "For the 2012 London Games our aim was to withstand 9 football matches, including training and familiarisation sessions and still have an elite playing surface for the GOLD medal events. This was a trying schedule of activity for the playing surface over an 11 day period, however our refined maintenance processes, expert grounds team and the Desso GrassMaster system gave us the perfect playing conditions for this global football event."

Successfully tested surface

"By the end of the Olympics we had an established surface that had been successfully tested to its limits and given the challenging growing environment and event calendar of the stadium this could not have been possible without the robustness of the GrassMaster surface."
