Artificial turf pitch boosts community spirit in Iraq

When the Minister of Sport in Iraq, Jasim Muhammad Jaffar, visited the dusty natural grass field in Al-Amirya, he immediately decided to replace it with an evergreen artificial grass pitch.

Boosts community spirit

Laith Abdul Latif, Managing Assistant of the Amirya Youth & Sport Centre is very happy with the pitch. He considers it a changing point for the youth in the neighbourhood and the community in general. “I think this pitch can offer the kids of my neighbourhood a steady place to meet their peers and practice their sporting skills. I can surely say that having such a pitch could unite everyone around here. The sports centre can boost the sport and team spirit in our community.”

Brings young Iraqi together

Latif: “The pitch gives a professional reputation to our sports centre. After installing the pitch, the number of young players coming to our sports centre increased rapidly: from just a few to a couple of hundreds.” Chief Coach of Football Mustafa Mahmood adds: “All kids from the surrounding areas come every day wanting to play on the pitch. The centre attendance has been rising considerably.”
